Lawmakers invited to APPU

Taro Aso President of the APPU Japanese National Group has invited Senate Floor Leader Alan Seid which is the current president of the APPU Palau National Group and other lawmakers to attend the annual meeting.Aso said APPU activity has contributed to the “peace and betterment” of the Asia and Pacific member countries and districts.Aso said the Japan group has decided to host the general assembly every two years.The Asian Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union was established in 1965 as the Asian Parliamentarian Union. It changed its name in 1975 to the Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union and began accepting membership from the Pacific island nations. APPU currently has 24 member countries with 27 other countries as observers. APPU members are Federated States of Micronesia(FSM), Samoa, Kingdom of Tonga, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Nauru,Fiji Island, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Japan, Thailand, Laos, Mongolia, Taiwan, Korea, Palau , Republic of the Marshall Islandm Vanuatu and Cook Island.
