CUC says it is repairing Feeder 3

“The power division line crew will be repairing a defective air break system on Feeder 3, near Gualo Rai intersection,” CUC said.

The repair of the air break system required CUC crew to turn off some grids on specific areas on island, the utilities agency said, adding that the repair of the equipment will help “minimize future feeder outages.”

Feeder outage is one of the causes of power interruptions on island, aside from engine problems at CUC power plants.

CUC said it needed to turn off Feeders 2 and 3 yesterday between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. to ensure the safety of its line crews who worked on the air break system.

The grid of Feeder 2 covers the Commonwealth Ports Authority, Puerto Rico, Garapan, south to San Jose intersection.

The grid of Feeder 3 includes Chinatown, Sugar King Rd., As Falipe, south to Gualo Rai intersection, south to the intersection of Chalan Pale Arnold, and Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Rd. and Quarter Master.

CUC reminded the public that after the completion of its repair on Feeder 3, “the load shedding schedule will continue until the engine repairs are completed at the power plant.”

CUC implemented its load shedding schedule yesterday until 10 p.m.

Between 10 a.m. and 12 noon, Kiya 1: 2nd Partial and Feeder 1: Laterals were turned off, affecting the Saipan International Airport, As Perdido, upper Chinatown, and upper MIHA.

From 12 noon to 2 p.m., the entire grid of Feeder 4 was taken offline, affecting Sadog Tasi, Wireless, Capital Hill, Kagman and portions of Papago.

From 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., lower Base industrial area, north to Tanapag, Achugao, San Roque, As Matuis, and Marpi were down as the entire grid of Feeder 7 was manually tripped.

The entire grid of Kiya 2 was also turned off from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., paralyzing the power service in As Lito, Fina Sisu, Koblerville, As Gonno, San Antonio, and Afetnas.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the entire grid of Kiya 4 was taken offline. This affected the areas of Oleai, San Jose, Susupe, Mount Carmel, portions of Chalan Kanoa and Chalan Kiya.

San Vicente, upper and lower Dandan, Isley Field, and other areas suffered power outages as the entire grid of Kiya 1 was turned off between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
