Oscar King appeared with court-appointed counsel Mark Hanson for an arraignment yesterday. The federal government was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric O’Malley.
U.S. District Court of the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson accepted the defendant’s plea and set the jury trial for Aug. 25 at 9 a.m. The pre-trial motions will be filed by July 3, 2008.
The prosecution wants the defendant to remain in custody without bail while the defense moved to file a written motion for a bail hearing at a later date. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service after the hearing.
The charges were filed against Oscar King and 33-year-old Guihualyu King, a.k.a. Mimi, for one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine hydrochloride or “ice,” and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance on April 12, 2008 on Tinian.
The indictment stated that the two defendants possessed and distributed “ice, a controlled substance of approximately 1.5 net grams.
