Every year, President Remengesau and the first lady attend the gathering of the Palauan community in the Pacific Northwest.This year will be Remengesau’s last year to attend the celebration as he will end his term by 2008.Presidential candidates Johnson Toribiong, Surangel Whipps joined the celebration during the weekend.Toribiong was accompanied by his running mate , Del. Kerai Mariur while Sen. Alan Seid is also in Portland to represent presidential candidate Elias Camsek Chin.The event in Portand is a gathering of hundreds of Palauan families giving them the opportunity to talk with the president. The president meanwhile can update them on the happenings in Palau.The candidates are expected to also hold their own meetings with the residents.
