Saipan completes All Stars baseball teams

On Saturday, a double header will happen between Saipan’s Junior League All Stars and Tinian selection for the District Tournament at the Fransisco Palacios Ballfield. The game on Sunday will decide which team advances to the 2008 Asia Pacific Regional Tournament that will also be held on Saipan on June 25.

For the Senior Little League Saipan All Stars will meet Rota All Stars on Rota from June 10 to 14.

Saipan has All Stars teams for Little League Majors division, Junior Little League, Senior Little League and Big Little League.

All the teams with their respective coaching staff and manager have started practicing one week now.

Saipan Senior Little League All Stars had a good job last year making it to the World Series in Banger, Maine.

Team manager, Derron G. Flores recalls that they advance to the World Series after shutting out Guam, 13-0 and the Philippines, 13-0 in 2007 Asia Pacific Regional Tournament that was held on Guam.

However, they lost to Hawaii and Canada during the World Series.

This year, team captain Ofero Taitano believes is going to be tougher than last year.

He said this time they will have to prepare against Indonesia that failed to make it last year is now playing again this year. That team, he recalls, denied them their bid to the World Series in 2006 Asia Pacific Regional Tournament.

“We need to practice in batting,” he said.

Saipan Senior Little League pitching leader, Josh Jones who gave out a total of 72 strikes out during the regular season vowed to pitch his best.

“There are a lot of things to improve because I know there will be good teams who will show up there,” he said.

He knows they really have to work hard to be the best in catching, and batting.
