Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona Manglona on Friday agreed to Kazuyoshi Miura’s defense team’s request for a rescheduled hearing. The prosecution did not object.
Miura, 60, who has been detained on Saipan since his arrest on Feb. 22, remained calm and silent throughout Friday’s proceedings.
The Los Angeles Superior Court is scheduled to hear his motion to quash his 1988 and 2008 reissued warrant of arrest on July 25 — two days before his 61st birthday.
Miura’s tele-video appearance through the facilities of the U.S District Court for the NMI for the L.A. hearing originally scheduled for June 16 — June 17 on Saipan — has already been approved.
On Friday, the judge offered the prosecution’s team —Assistant Attorneys General Jeffery Warfield Jr. and Mike Nisperos — and the defense team — attorneys Bruce Berline, Bill Fitzgerald and Mark Hanson — case laws to review before they argue the merits of whether Miura should be granted bail.
“I am not treating this as a regular criminal case,” she said during the hearing.
She told the parties to review Puerto Rico vs. Branstad, People vs. Walton and People vs. Ruiz.
All three cases involved extradition matters.
