Curreen, 27, who is also preparing for the Beijing Olympics was among those who bagged gold medal in the opening event of the 2008 Oceania Under 18 and Open Area Championship.
He was over one minute ahead of Brendan Wheelan of Australia, (21:09) who won silver medal followed by Vanuatu’s Lavi Sam who finished it in 21 minutes and 14 seconds.
Sixteen-year-old Gregory Foasilafu of Solomon Islands won the Under 18 Men Kilometer Run finishing it in 10 minutes and 16 seconds.
Silver medalist was Christopher Magtoto of Guam with 10 minutes and 20 seconds and the bronze medalist was Jeofrey Limtiaco.
NMI’s Mathew Mancao placed fourth with 11 minutes and 29 seconds.
In Under 18 Women Division, Laura Nagel of New Zealand won gold medal in the 3 Kilometer Run with 10 minutes and 49 seconds. Trailing her was Danielle Trevis also of New Zealand with 11:30 minutes.
Papua New Guinea’s Salome Dell who topped the 800 Meter Run Women during the Grand Prix Series on Monday also won gold medal in 3 Kilometer Run Cross Country Open finishing the route in 11 minutes and 8 seconds.
Marie Benito of Guam won silver medal as he finished the distance in 12 minutes and 20 seconds.
