Francisco S. Dela Cruz, Covenant-Saipan and member of the House Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications, authored House Bill 16-115.
He said CUC’s customers should be allowed to settle their utility bills without actually traveling and visiting the agency’s office to make payments.
Dela Cruz said his measure will allow CUC customers to save gasoline.
CUC customers pay their power, water, sewer bills at it main office in Dandan or at certain banks on island.
The Bank of Guam accepts payments for CUC utility bills for free; Bank of Hawaii for a $1 fee; and the Bank of Saipan for 50 cents.
Dela Cruz’s measure will also require CUC to publish its regulations and all public notices like new utility rates and load shedding schedules on the Web site.
According to the bill, “Customers should not be required to pay for copies of CUC regulations and public notices if such customers desire to review, not make copies of, the regulations and public notices on the CUC Web site.”
