Legislative oversight will proceed despite ongoing CUC audit

Rep. Ray N. Yumul, R-Saipan and chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, suggests that Sablan’s forthcoming oversight investigation should be suspended for the time being, after Public Auditor Mike Sablan told him that the OPA is conducting an audit on CUC’s finances.

Sablan, Ind.-Saipan and chairwoman of the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation’s Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications, believes her panel may proceed with the oversight process which, she added, “complements” the audit.

She held there will be no conflict with OPA’s auditing efforts.

But Yumul said the oversight might impede the work of  OPA.

“Finish the audit first, then do the oversight,” he said.

OPA is conducting an audit of CUC’s 2007 financial statement.
