Scholarship awards were also given out from J.C. Tenorio Enterprises, Thespian Scholarship, Rotary Club Scholarship and Robert C. Byrd Scholarship.
There was also the presentation of academic awards, such as all the department content area awards, Certificate of Initial Mastery, Citizenship, Perfect Attendance, and finally the Presidential Academic Fitness Award and the top honors.
“I feel that education is a culmination of a person’s life experiences. Many people contribute to a person’s education and it is a lifelong process,” said MHS vice-principal of instruction Jessica Barcinas.
The awards ceremony was held a day before graduation.
Barcinas explains, “the senior awards ceremony is usually scheduled the day before the graduation day because it provides the opportunity for our graduating class to be honored and recognized for the last time with the whole student body. The graduates are dressed in their gowns and also provide time for them to have a final ‘dress rehearsal before the big day.”
With the close of the 2007- 2008 school year, MHS faced a variety of challenges.
“MHS was still able to rise above these challenges and face obstacles head on and yet still be very successful,” said Barcinas.
“Achievement is accomplished through many ways, but true achievement comes from being the very best you can be through your school work and in your relationships with your family and friends. As long as you can admit that you really did your best and that you somehow contributed to the betterment of the lives in others, I think that that in itself is quite an achievement,” she said.
