Teens in burglary case plead not guilty

Michael Jordan Cabrera and Jake Atalig Palacios, both 19, appeared for arraignment yesterday morning before Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja.

Cabrera was represented by attorney George Hasselback while Palacios was represented by Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig.

The defendants were charged with burglary and theft for burglarizing the residence of Sgt. Hillary Tagabuel in Kagman on May 9 and stealing his X-Box 360 and accessories.

The defendants denied the charges and entered a not guilty plea. They also waived reading of the information and advisement of their rights.

Naraja set the status conference for July 1.

Cabrera was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections while Palacios was released after posting 10 percent of his $5,000 cash bail.

The two defendants were arrested last month after the police officer found his computer games at a pawnshop in Dandan.

Tagabuel called the police and reported that the items were at the Villaroyal pawnshop.

The defendants are nephews of Tagabuel’s wife, the police affidavit stated.
