Police academy applicants undergo physical agility test

Physical agility test, according to senior drill instructor PO III Frankie Pangelinan, is conducted for applicants who want to become police cadets and fire cadets.

“Physical agility is just one of the requirements to gain entry into the academy for police and fire,” he said.

Pangelinan added that the physical agility test is a series of three test units.

He said the first unit is the push-ups where the applicants are made to execute as many correct push-ups as they can in two minutes.

The sit-ups require the applicants to do as many as they can in the same time allotment, and the final test is the one-mile run.

Pangelinan said this is equivalent to four laps in the standard track and field to finish the course.

He said the applicants who hope to enter the academy still has to go through other requirements like the placement test English 101 and pass the required grade. The physical agility test follows.

Pangelinan said they will forward the results of the physical agility test to the office of DPS.

Working with Pangelinan is Lt. Jesse Mesa, the senior drill instructor for the fire cadets.

He said that this year, there are 20 slots for the police cadets and 16 slots for fire cadets in the academy.

According to Pangelinan, 47 applicants showed up for the agility test on Tuesday.
