Amphitheater renovation ongoing, other repair work at American Memorial Park

After the delays caused by Covid-19, the repair projects are finally underway, she added.

“Like the rest of the CNMI, we are using this time to make other improvements, too, in anticipation of the return of tourism to our islands. We ask that visitors respect the construction areas and maintain a safe distance,” Alberti said.

“The amphitheater is being renovated to improve drainage in front of the stage, and to resurface and improve the concrete seating, steps, and walkways.”

The renovation was planned before Yutu, she added.

In addition to the amphitheater renovation, Alberti said the typhoon-damaged lighting in the memorial area, the parking areas at the Visitor Center and Micro Beach pavilion, and at the tennis courts is being removed and will be replaced in the coming months.

“We expect lighting for the mall in front of the Court of Honor to be completed first. Other areas will be completed pending receipt of materials,” she said.

A recent water line rupture behind the Micro Beach restroom is also being repaired this week, she said, adding that Yutu destroyed the electrical elements in the nearby lift station.

“We expect the electrical repairs to be done in the coming months,” Alberti said.

She also mentioned that the water damage caused by Yutu in the administrative offices on Saipan is being addressed, including new flooring and ceiling tiles. “We have taken this opportunity to make other utility repairs and upgrades in the building,” she added.

“We would like to thank the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors and the Korean Community of Saipan in partnering with us to adopt the Micro Beach area for regular cleanup and other beautification projects. We would also like to thank the Marianas High School JROTC cadets, Miss Northern Marianas Shannon Sasamoto, the senior class of Grace Christian Academy and all the volunteers who attended the Veterans Day Sunset Cleanup last Friday.”

Alberti is inviting members of the community “to our next sunset cleanup this Friday, Nov. 20, at 4:30 p.m. Please contact our community volunteer ambassador Oceana Songsong (oceana.amme@gmail.com) to sign up before the event.”
