From Nov. 21 to 29, participants must complete a 1,500-meter swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer run.
Among the participants from the CNMI is novice triathlete Eric Abragan who said his interest in triathlon started with the Go the Distance Challenge back in July.
He and his group participated in the 30-mile swim and then decided to add running to their daily routine.
Abragan also joined the recently held North Trail Run.
“It felt like it’s the perfect time to seize these opportunities while the pandemic is still preventing normal competitions,” Abragan said.
After hearing about the Guam virtual triathlon, Abragan added biking to his arsenal and signed up for the event.
Abragan is participating with fellow CNMI triathletes Lydia Tan, Yulia Aleksenko, Janet King, Isaiah Aleksenko, Marshall Hoskins, Ricky Castro, Ambet Omampo, Manny Sitchon, Nap Dizon, Ronald Villafria, Brad Ruszala and Cathy Ruszala.
Abragan and a few others have already set up their route, hoping to “kill” the challenge in one fell swoop this Saturday.
“Our group decided to start with a 6 a.m. swim from Guma Sakman to Oleai Beach and back and then transition to biking from Pacific Islands Club to Mariana Resort and back,” Abragan said. “Pro runners are then going to run from Bank of Guam to Guma Sakman.”
In this virtual event, he said participants are allowed to take a break as long as they do all three events in a day — swimming, biking and running.
“Regardless of how we do, in the end we will celebrate,” he said.
