First traffic-related fatality in NMI this year

Later that day, a traffic investigator met with Dr. Dore Shafransky who stated that the 56-year-old, non-local male had passed due to blunt force trauma to the chest from the motor vehicle crash.

This crash incident marks the CNMI’s first traffic fatality for the year 2020.

The vehicle crash occurred on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at about 8:24 p.m., near the Chalan Monsignor Guerrero and Chalan Tun Antonio Apa street light on As Terlaje hill.

At the scene, officers observed a blue 4-door sedan with extensive damage on the front end, as the vehicle had slammed into the concrete base of a traffic signal light post.

First responders at the scene were not able to get a response or pulse from the operator of the vehicle.

Medics immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the operator as he was extracted out of the vehicle and rushed to CHCC.

There, Emergency Room staff managed to revive the operator before transferring the patient to the Intensive Care Unit where he was listed as “critical condition.”

He was being observed by CHCC staff until he passed away on Oct. 27, 2020.
