Through a partnership with LocalGov, a tax collection and accountability software, the division now has a way to digitize and simplify the manual filing and payment of taxes, she added.
The division has been looking into digitizing the process in light of the global Covid-19 pandemic, Norita said.
The goal is to shorten lines outside and minimize in-person contact while still providing services to taxpayers, she added.
With this new online platform, taxpayers can pay their taxes online, including their business gross revenue and hotel occupancy taxes.
“We are at the tail end of finalizing our online platform and we should be having an official launch within the next few days,” said Norita, adding that there are still some tweaks that need to be made before the launch.
The new developments also include online business license applications and online payments for excise taxes for the business community members who expect cargo shipments and pay taxes at the seaport or at the airport.
“What we’re hoping this does is eliminate travel time, wait time, [and] repetitive paperwork because your online account can save some information for you so that you don’t have to fill it out every month,” Norita said.
She said taxpayers will have the ability to make secure and traceable payments through the Automated Clearing House ACH network or their credit cards.
