CUC deputy executive director for water and wastewater William Gilmore said the decrease of non-revenue water loss could be attributed to the reduction of breaks in the main waterline.
He said they have also reduced well pumping to avoid overflowing in the tank during the repair and maintenance of wells.
In June, the non-revenue water loss of the public utility is 65%, he said.
“The ever changes of progress in the non-revenue water loss is affected by a variety of things,” Gilmore said. “It’s either additional revenue coming in, or there’s less production.”
He said, if there is less production it could mean a tighter system or fewer leaks in the waterline.
In a separate interview, CUC executive director Gary Camacho said there had been lots of work in the field addressing leaks in the water system.
“CUC has aggressively prioritized the larger leaks and making a greater impact quickly,” he said, adding that it is one of the reasons for the reduction of non-revenue water loss in the previous month.
The adjustment conducted by the water division is starting to pay off, he said, as he expressed appreciation to the US Environmental Protection Agency for their continued support to upgrade the water system.
