‘Learn more about yourself’

“I really struggled — going to a new environment, dealing with a 14-hour time difference from my parents,” Sinclair said, referring to his first year at Cornell University. “But I think it’s something everyone should do. Get away and learn more about yourself.”

Sinclair said he decided to pursue tennis despite “not being the best” at Cornell University. “I just didn’t feel like I was done with tennis yet. I felt like I had more room to grow and mature.”

Once he decided to pursue tennis as a professional player, Sinclair trained every single day.

“Just those four years of college really gave you time to get you into proper strength and conditioning programs to develop. You spend 3-4 hours a day on court, working.”

He added, “I don’t think you’ll be the same player at 22 compared to what you were at 18.”

For the young tennis players of the NMI, Sinclair offers the following advice:

“I would tell them to do it 100%. It’s such a good experience.”
