Last week, four cargo vessels and one oil tanker arrived on island, Division of Customs compliance supervisor Robert Reyes said, adding that these brought in 167 containers of food and other commodities as well as 67 vehicles.
The vessels’ last ports of entry were Guam, the U.S., the Philippines, South Korean and Japan.
“We are working on a regular basis,” Reyes said, adding that all safety measures are being implemented in their inspection process.
He said of the more than 70 Customs personnel, one-half have been assigned to the governor’s Covid-19 Task Force, but Customs personnel are still deployed at the seaports and airports on Saipan, Tinian and Rota as well as the post office.
“We are on 64-hour austerity,” Reyes said, but “we manage to performing our regular work by adjusting our schedules.”
