KagES ready for full-day schedule on March 9; WSR to resume full-day session at end of March

In an interview, WSR principal Lynn Mendiola said their target date for the resumption of full-day classes is the last week of March.

WSR’s Building I, which has 10 classrooms, has been repaired, she said, adding: “We’re just waiting for the finishing touches — painting the wall and reconnection of power.”

As for the repairs to Building F, which has four classrooms, they are almost complete, Mendiola said.

The school will also have a new counselors office located inside the library, she said.

In addition, furniture — desks and chairs — has already been delivered to WSR, which likewise received instructional materials a few months ago, Mendiola said.

WSR, located in Chalan Kanoa, was one of the schools that were severely damaged by Typhoon Yutu in Oct. 2019.

WSR opened the current school year on double sessions with only 15 classrooms to accommodate 670 students.

WSR lost 10 classrooms in Building I, seven in Building C, and four in Building F.

As for Building C, Mendiola said it will be demolished and there is a plan to rebuild it in a couple of years.

At Kagman Elementary School, vice principal Peter Arriola said they will return to a full-day schedule on March 9.

“Right now, we are taking care of everything to ensure the safety of students and staff ,” Arriola said in a phone interview.

Due to an electrical problem discovered a few days before the opening of classes in September, KagES has been conducting morning classes at Chacha Oceanview Middle School.

Arriola said, “KagES’ electrical problem is being addressed now and we will be ready to go on March 9.”

In a public advisory on Tuesday, KagES principal Dr. Ignacia T. Demapan said classes on March 9 at KagES will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m.

“Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. Bus transportation will be provided in the morning and in the afternoon. For car riders, please ensure that your child is picked up promptly at 2:40 p.m. Our ‘3 Strikes Late Pick Up’ SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) will apply.

“In addition, please continue to follow our traffic flow SOP. The traffic flow is for student drop-off and pick up only. If you plan on walking your child on campus, please park your car at the designated parking area. We will have teachers and staff monitoring our traffic flow to ensure that SOP is followed as well as to ensure the safety of all students on the campus.

“Below is a snapshot of what will be going on that week on our KagES campus:

“Monday, March 9 — KagES on full-day schedule at KagES campus (7:30 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.)

“Tuesday, March 10 — KagES PTSA meeting in the cafeteria (5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.)

“Friday, March 13 — KagES half day (dismissal time at 11:30 a.m.)”
