By March 1, he said, the Census office will begin the group quarters, transitory location, and housing unit enumeration.
The field follow-up enumeration starts on April 15 and ends on June 30, he added.
“So right now, you’ll be seeing some of our people out in the field,” Norita said.
Saipan is divided into five sectors while Rota and Tinian are each considered one sector, he added. Each sector has an operations supervisor who has more than 30 crew leaders with their own enumerators, Norita said.
All their enumerators are part-time employees who start their work at 5 p.m., but work all-day on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, he added.
He said a household may request the enumerator to come back if the individual thinks that it is already late for data gathering.
“We do an appointment for another day or whenever you’re comfortable,” Norita said. “But enumerators should not show up at households at 10 p.m.”
He said the U.S. Census Bureau has assigned an advisor, Colleen Joyce, to the island territories, and provided internet service as well as equipment for their census offices.
Norita said only the equipment supplied by the Census Bureau may be connected to the territories’ census office networks.
