“Due to the reduced funding, we have to minimize our fuel consumption to sustain our operation,” Aquino said.

As of Friday, she said, the mayor’s office had removed 170 junk cars since the start of the new year.
The junk car removal program is coordinated with the Saipan Zoning Office.
Aquino said the mayor’s office removes an abandoned vehicle from a public area once the zoning office has properly tagged the vehicle.
The junk vehicles are then brought to FSM Recycling Center, which has a memorandum of agreement with the mayor’s office, she added.
