Island Ride aims to help tourists and local community members experience an affordable and easy ride, Digital Saipan marketing manager Robert Exley said.
It will also create stable jobs for locals while upgrading the transportation system on Saipan, he added.
“We’re hoping to help bring Saipan into the 21st century…. We noticed that one of the big things lacking here was a decent transportation network whether public or private,” he said.
Digital Saipan was formed in Jan. 2019 by Kong Xi who has 15 years of experience with application technology development in China.
“I’m very happy to offer our product to the people on island,” he said.
How does it work?
The ride-sharing app will be available to the public starting on Jan. 17 on Google Play and App Store.
Customers will be offered four different types of vehicles: sedan, MPV, SUV, and pick-up truck.
“We set the price quite competitively so that the drivers can get a nice wage rate,” Exley said.
The price depends on the location and on the type of vehicle chosen by a customer.
“We will cover the entire island, including the northern part for tourists,” Exley said.
Interested drivers will have to pay a fee for marketing purposes and a background check.
“To drive for Island Ride for under $100 is a pretty good investment,” Exley said.
Digital Saipan also plans to develop other apps, including one for food delivery service.
“In the future, we’ll do food delivery,” Exley said. “We’ll do grocery delivery and item delivery…. Our idea is that transportation covers more than just moving people, but also things and items.”
Interested drivers may contact Robert Exley at robert@digitalsaipan.com or at 287-9758.
