THE 2023 CNMI Liberation Day festivities will kick off Saturday, July 1, at the Garapan Fishing Base with a “battle of the bands.”
The competition will feature original compositions based on this year’s Liberation Day theme, “Resiliency Rising.”
As part of the preliminary screening, interested musicians must upload a recording of their performance on YouTube, and send a link to liberationdaysong@gmail.com/.
Eight finalists will be selected to perform in front of a live audience and a panel of handpicked judges comprised of members of the local music and arts community.
The criteria include lyrical composition, stage presence, originality and how well the song relates to the theme.
A band must not have more than five members who must be CNMI residents. Solo artists and duets are allowed to vie for the top spot.
Finalists will vie for $1,000 worth of cash and other prizes, and a chance to be featured in Liberation Day promotions.
The winning artist(s)’ song will be highlighted in Liberation Day advertisements leading up to Liberation Day 2024.
The Liberation Day Committee would like to thank its co-sponsor for the event, Napu Brewing dba Tapped Out, “for supporting our local artists and joining us in giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents.”
