CPA and Priority Care have advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League after earning stunning victories over their respective opponents on Saturday at the Ada gym.

CPA nearly faced elimination but found their second wind in the fourth quarter to rally past Joeten, 71-60.

Throughout most of the game, it was Joeten that controlled the pace.

In the opening quarter, Joeten’s Ervin Villarin, Rafael Ordona and Sid Quan led their team’s offense with great ball movement while capitalizing on second-chance buckets to seize the lead, 20-14.

But CPA continued to put up a fight with Donovan Brennan  at the frontline in the second and third cantos to deliver 16 points while team mate David Camacho provided additional baskets.

But each time CPA came close, Joeten would pull away thanks to Quan and Villarin, who combined for 11 points to maintain the upper hand, 53-50.

In the fourth and final quarter, CPA suddenly picked up the pace while Joeten struggled and committed turnovers, which allowed CPA’s Frank Robert to score eight straight points and give his team the  lead for the first time.

CPA continued to thrive as they held Joeten to just seven team points. Brennan then connected two  three-pointers to put the game out of reach and secure an upset win, 71-60.

Priority Care vs Office of the Governor

Also earning an upset victory was Priority Care, which defeated the Office of the Governor, 74-62.

The game was intense and featured several lead exchanges  throughout the first half.

Priority Care’s dynamic trio — Matthew Duenas, Steve King and Marvin Rabauliman — seized the spotlight to deliver several buckets around the perimeter.

But so did the Office of the Governor thanks to Athan Taisague who ignited the flames. Teammate Juan Camacho then stepped up to score 12 points and give their team a slight lead by halftime, 31-30.

In the third canto, the  Office of the Governor  missed several shots while Priority Care’s King jumped on the opportunity to seize the lead by scoring 13 points, 53-44.

The Office of the Governor tried their best to get back in the game, but they could not stop Priority Care’s onslaught and had to accept defeat, 62-74.
