Governor OKs over-the-cap salary for Glen Hunter

GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios has allowed Special Assistant for Broadband Policy Development Glen Hunter to receive an annual salary exceeding the $65,175 cap set by the Compensation Adjustment Act.

Hunter will receive $70,000 a year.

The amount, according to Special Assistant for Administration Oscar M. Babauta, is 100% federally funded.

In his letter of certification addressed to Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero and Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez, the governor said he was also informing the Civil Service Commission chairman about Hunter’s annual salary.

In April 2023, the governor signed Directive 2023-003, establishing the position of special assistant for broadband policy and development within the Office of the Governor. Palacios appointed Hunter as special assistant for the program, which the governor said would be fully supported by federal funds.

The program “is very critical for our Commonwealth. With more resources becoming available from the federal government for upgrading broadband and communications, we have to put together a plan in order to make this a reality,” Palacios said.
