Amata takes part in delegation honoring US veterans sites in Europe

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Office of the American Samoa Congressional Delegate) — U.S. Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata took part in a congressional delegation in her role as vice chair of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs that included the Landstuhl Medical Center, an Army medical facility.

“Our military conducts healthcare all over the world, which necessarily includes telehealth, so Department of Defense health operations are a good starting point in examining what might be helpful and effective in any other geographically distant location, such as our planning for modernized hospital services in American Samoa,” said Congresswoman Amata.

In a special visit, members of Congress paid tribute to U.S. veterans’ historic sites in several countries in Europe before the Fourth of July, starting in Normandy. These honored places include cemeteries that are the resting place of thousands of U.S. service members who gave their lives in the great cause of liberating Europe from Nazi occupation.

“All U.S. veterans sites and their care fall under the oversight jurisdiction of the Veterans Affairs Committee, and it is humbling to take part in honoring them,” said Vice Chair Amata. “Each memorial and burial site is special and beautiful to visit, and I appreciate the caretaking and dignity these U.S. veterans are given in international locations. These battle sites have great historic importance, and are forever honored as the places where thousands of U.S. service members bravely fought to secure the freedom of hundreds of millions of people.”

Led by Chairman Mike Bost, the members of Congress visited Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, National Guard Memorial, and Normandy American Cemetery. They took part in an Italy Navy Sixth Fleet roundtable; visited U.S. Service Members at Ramstein Air Base and Landstuhl Medical Center; toured the Battle of the Bulge Monument in Belgium; held closed-door meetings with NATO and the European Union  Parliament; and visited Aisne Marne American Cemetery, Belleau Wood, Marine Monument, Devil Dog Fountain, and Church of Saint Etienne.
