THE Blue Jays came out victorious by a feather as they held down D9er’s, 8-7, Thursday in the Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
D9er’s controlled the first half of the game after gaining momentum from their defense as the second baseman, Isaiah Lizama, earned five consecutive outs with a 4-3 play in the first and second innings while earning a single run to hold a 1-0 lead.
Their lead continued to grow in the third inning with two runs via errors. Four more runs were added by John Benavente and Jesse Sablan at the front line with an RBI each to further extend the deficit, 7-0.
However, in the bottom of the fourth, the Blue Jays started to gain more confidence. Mike Tomokane ignited the run with a two-RBI double with Kyle Foreman also delivering a two-RBI single before reaching home to reduce the gap, 7-5.
The Blue Jays evened the score in the top of the fifth with two runs and added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to seize the lead, 8-7.
Although D9er’s had one more chance for a comeback, the Blue Jays notched two strikeouts and a 4-3 play for the third and final out to secure the win.
