MP United’s Michelle Masga and Shirley’s Werlly Breakenridge battle for the possession during an intermediate division game of the Dove Women’s League at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

SHIRLEY’S  and MP United football clubs continue to hold the top spots in the Intermediate (Flores – Pee Luwal) Division of the Dove Women’s League after winning their games Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

Shirley’s had the chance to hold the top spot all to themselves but were denied after the Kanoa Football Club forced a draw, 3-3.

It was a high-paced opening half with Shirley’s establishing early control after Mikayla Lopez found the back of the net after just one minute of play.

Kanoa  retaliated at the fifth minute mark after turning defense into offense with Yelene Ha connecting the first goal of the day to even the score, 1-1.

Shirley’s Lopez continued to punish defenders with her speed and ball control as she sliced through with her second goal at the 11th minute mark to regain the lead.

Throughout the subsequent scuffle, Shirley’s seemed to have a firm grasp of the possession, but Kanoa’s Ha managed to slip through the cracks and successfully fired her second goal  at the 27th minute mark for the second deadlock of the match, 2-2.

The second half was filled with back-and-forth action with neither team able to score after 50 minutes of play.

But during crunch time, Shirley’s efforts were finally rewarded as their constant pressure broke down Kanoa’s wall of defense, leaving Jeraldine Castillo unguarded to drain what could have been the game-winning goal at the 51st minute mark.

Kanoa, however, turned the tide at the 55th minute mark with Chi Sato connecting a shot to force the draw, 3-3.

In the overall team standings, Shirley’s, MP United and Southern United are in the lead with six wins each.
