Governor nominates 4 to boards, commissions

GOVERNOR Arnold I. Palacios on Friday nominated four individuals to government boards and commissions.

They are retired educator Dr. John “Jack” A. Angello of Saipan to the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission; Rota resident Valerie M. Atalig to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors; Rota resident Elvira M. Mesngon to the Civil Service Commission; and Rota resident Daniel Taitano to the Commonwealth Economic Development Authority board of directors.

Their nominations require Senate confirmation.

If confirmed, Angello, Atalig and Taitano will serve a four-year term while Mesngon will serve a six-year term.

In his appointment letter, the governor said he Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang are confident that Angello will devote his time and efforts to represent the interests of the Commonwealth. His willingness to serve the people is most appreciated, the governor said.

Palacios told Atalig that he and the lt. governor are confident that she is qualified and will devote her time and efforts to the best interest of CUC.

As for Mesngon, the governor said he and lt. governor believe that she will be an asset on an important commission.

In his letter to Taitano, the governor said he and the lt. governor are confident in the nominee’s leadership to ensure efficient continuity of the functions and mandates of CEDA “as we work toward achieving our administration’s goals and objectives.”

The governor, in his separate letters to Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, requested the Senate’s favorable action on the nominations.
