Sablan to retire as Mayors’ Council executive director Dec. 1

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Angel Sablan announced Wednesday that he will be stepping down from his position as the executive director of the Mayors’ Council of Guam after serving 15 years with the council.

During a meeting of the MCOG Wednesday, in the portion of the meeting dedicated to the executive director’s report, Sablan told the mayors and vice mayors in attendance that he will be “making his retirement official on Dec. 1.”

“I certainly believe that I’m not indispensable and there are people out there that can carry on the torch to continue to make the Mayors’ Council of Guam an agency that everyone on our island can be proud of,” Sablan said.

He also expressed how proud he was to have worked as the executive director of the council.

“I’m proud, I’m proud of all of you and my ride these 15 years has been one of the most enjoyable in my lifetime I will not forget,” Sablan added.

In the meantime, Sablan said he’d be taking personal leave in the next few weeks to attend to family matters, but will be around during his last week to assist in the transition process for the new executive director.

“As president, we’ve worked well together to get our ideas across at least and to get things done. I know that you have served this council faithfully for the time that you were here and we have all developed personal relationships with you,” Alig said before wishing Sablan well on his next endeavor.

The Guam Daily Post confirmed with Sablan that he would continue to serve the rest of his term on the Guam Education Board.
