An MPU player reaches out to control the possession during a U17 boys division game of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Fall 2023 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
THE MP United Football Club bagged their third win by edging the Kanoa Football Club, 3-2, in the U17 boys division of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Fall 2023 on Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
It was a fairly even match as both teams filled the first half with back-and-forth action. But MPU had the slight edge in controlling the possession and were rewarded for their persistence at the 20th minute mark as Jim Takeru connected the first goal of the day to lead at halftime, 1-0.
In the second half, Kanoa played more aggressively and finally broke through MPU’s line of defense with Paul Lizama scoring at the 51st and 59th minute marks to grasp the lead, 2-1.
It all seemed over for MPU. However, at the 70th minute mark, MPU found their second wind and launched an attack with Sosa William finding the back of the net to even the score. Takeru followed up six minutes later with the game-winning shot to defeat Kanoa, 3-2.
Latte vs Matansa
Joining the winner’s circle was Latte FC, which slipped past Matansa FC, 3-2.
Although Matansa established control in the first half, thanks to a goal by Addy Heman, Latte delivered three goals in the second half. Isiah Barcinas scored the first goal at the 55th minute mark followed by Mark Patubo at the 61st, and Monico Claridades at the 70th, to snatch control, 3-1.
Matansa continued to fight back and scored a goal seven minutes later, but they failed to equalize due to lack of time and had to settle for defeat, 2-3.
