
AMIGOS Golf Club President Joe Torres bested Ed Manglona in a scorecard playoff to win the October Ace of the Month title Sunday at LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort east course.
Torres played well during the two-day tournament.
In the qualifier round on Sunday, Sept. 24, he cleared the east course with a gross of 84. Sporting a handicap of 12, his net score was 72. During the ace round on Sunday Oct. 15, Torres tweaked his swing, ending with a gross of 82 and a net of 70 for a combined two-day net score of 142.
Manglona, for his part, shot a gross of 85 in the qualifier round. With a 15 handicap, his net score was 70. In the ace round, he ended with a gross of 87 and a net score of 72 for a total net score of 142.
A scorecard playoff between Torres and Manglona determined the winner.
Based on the lowest handicap from holes #7 to #11, and on holes #9 and #10, Torres and Manglona were evenly matched. But hole #1, which was the fifth lowest handicap hole, was the deciding factor. Manglona had a double bogey while Torres only had a bogey, which gave him the October Ace of the Month title.
Sharing the spotlight were the optional play winners.
The Par 3 list was led by Nick Guerrero on holes #4 and #11; Ben Duenas, hole #6; Nick Guerrero, hole #11; and Rick Sablan, hole #15.
The Amigos Golf Club’s November Ace of the Month Tournament will be held on Oct. 22 and Nov. 5 at LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort.
