Tano, Tasi, yan Todu seeks biological technician

INDIVIDUALS interested in conservation work in the limestone forests of Guam are encouraged to apply for the biological technician job position open with Tano, Tasi, yan Todu, an organization of scientists, activists, and educators.

According to the organization’s Instagram account, the pay is $37,100 a year.

Qualified applicants will have college coursework in biology or other related scientific fields; familiarity with the distinct ecology of Micronesia; an ability to identify and survey native and non-native species; an ability to collect, germinate, and care for seedlings; an ability to collect and enter biological data; and an ability to work with the organization’s board members and other professionals.

An application packet should include a resume, two names and phone numbers for contact reference, and a cover letter.

Jimmy Camacho, a representative for Tano, Tasi, yan Todu said the technician will collect, analyze, and present data “to inform conservation and restoration initiatives currently being undertaken” by the organization. The data would be collected in partnership with the Guam Department of Agriculture-Forestry and Soil Science Division.

Technicians primarily collect data in limestone forests in Mangilao, spending much of the week in the field, with a few days processing data remotely and in the office, Camacho said.

“Technicians will be gathering data to support restoration and conservation of limestone forests and habitat for endangered and threatened plant and animal species. This would include data of fadang and fanihi, for example,” Camacho added.

He can be reached for questions at JTCamacho@tanotasitodu.org/. Application packets should also be sent to his email address.
