Man allegedly removed AC to break into home

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man on pretrial release in a burglary case from this year was accused of breaking into a home by removing an air conditioning unit.

On Tuesday morning, officers with the Guam Police Department responded to reports made by a man who was going to cut grass at his parents’ house in Inålahan when he heard banging coming from inside the house.

According to a magistrate’s complaint, the man saw Ronnie Ray Garrido attempting to exit through the back window of the residence.

When the man confronted Garrido and told him to leave, Garrido complied, saying he was there to take clothes. An argument ensued and the police were contacted.

The man reported to police that Garrido had been ordered by the court to stay away from the residence, after allegedly breaking into the home in July of this year.

“Further, witness indicated that (the) defendant made access to the residence by forcibly removing the ‘window-type air conditioning unit’ from a bedroom window, causing damage to the ‘AC bracket/frame.’ Witness estimated the damages to cost $150,” the complaint said.

During a check of the scene, officers found a sheet of plywood leaning against a vehicle in front of the residence, which was later identified as the piece of wood Garrido allegedly removed to enter the home, the complaint added.

Garrido was charged with burglary as a second-degree felony with a notice of felony while on felony release, as well as criminal mischief and violation of a court order as misdemeanors.
