HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Police are investigating reports of two separate shootings in Toto earlier this afternoon.
At about 12:18 p.m., Guam Police Department patrol officers from the Central Precinct responded to a shooting incident on Aragon Street in the Toto area, near the mayor’s office, according to a release sent by police spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella.
“The incident tragically claimed the life of a female victim who succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident,” Savella stated before adding another possible shooting was reported near Harvest Christian Academy.
Initial findings in the police investigation discovered there was a possible relationship between the two victims involved, which adds “a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.”
Although Savella indicated Harvest was placed on a lockdown for the safety of the children and staff, she also clarified the incident was not classified as an active shooter situation.
By 2:42 p.m. Savella said the lockdown had been lifted and GPD assured the community that there was no immediate threat to public safety.
“The focus of the ongoing investigation is to gather all relevant facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” Savella stated, before urging the community to remain “vigilant and cooperative.”
“The community’s patience is appreciated as law enforcement works diligently to piece together the events leading to this unfortunate incident.”
Although not confirmed by GPD, messages circulating on social media report a woman was shot on Aragon Street in Toto by the Mayor’s office before a man was found dead on the field at Harvest Christian Academy.
Photos are also going around on social media show police vehicles on the field at the school.
