Tropical Storm Bolaven moving northwest

BASED on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, a typhoon watch remains in effect for Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

A tropical storm warning in conjunction with a typhoon watch means that tropical storm force winds are expected within 24 hours, and that typhoon force winds are possible.

As of 11 a.m., Tropical Storm Bolaven was  about 410 miles east-southeast of Rota; about 410 miles east-southeast of Guam; about 420 miles southeast of Tinian; and about 425 miles southeast of Saipan

Bolaven is moving northwest at 8 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course with an increase in forward speed over the next 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 65 mph. Bolaven is forecast to intensify through Monday night, possibly becoming a typhoon early Tuesday.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 70 miles.

Because Tropical Storm Bolaven continues to pose a threat to the CNMI, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has maintained Typhoon Condition III for Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

Typhoon Condition III means that damaging winds of 39 mph or more are possible Tuesday morning and typhoon force winds of 74 mph or greater are possible Tuesday afternoon or evening.
