NAKOA Torres, Bentley Koshiro and Elleayah Cruz were among the top youth riders in the 2023 Marianas Racing Association Monster Energy Points Race Series.
They and this season’s other top racers received their trophies during an awards ceremony on Sept. 30 at the Saipan World Resort Taga Hall.
In the Peewee ATV class, Nakoa Torres finished first with a total of 238 points. The other competitor, Rockson Cabrera, accumulated 100 points.
According to Torres’ mother, Lizann Deleon Guerrero, “He is really happy! He was looking forward to the awards banquet because he was so excited to receive his trophy.”
She added, “For most of the season, he was the only one racing in his class, but we didn’t let that stop him from having fun on race days. We hope to see new racers in the Peewee ATV class next year or hopefully past racers will want to race again.”
She said the biggest challenge for her son was “racing on the same track that all the other riders race on, including older kids and the experts. He told us he wishes he could ride a smaller track, but his dad and I have told him that racing on the big track will only push him to become a better rider at such a young age.”
Variety learned that a smaller track is being built for the next season.
“His dad and I are more than satisfied with his performance this season and only hope that his love for racing doesn’t die out,” Deleon Guerrero said.
“He will be preparing for the annual Turkey Cross in November and he will be racing against riders that he faced earlier this year at Guam’s Smoking Wheels MX event,” she added.
Nakoa would like to thank MRA, the sponsors, Coach Ellery Cruz, Team Ericco and most especially his family who came out to support him on race days.
“This experience will not be possible without you all,” he said.
In the Peewee 1 class, Bentley Koshiro was the only rider but that did not stop him from putting on a show and finishing strong with a total of 200 points.
In in the Mini 1 class, Elleayah Cruz ruled the scene with a total of 250 points followed by Kaleb Reyes with 44 points.
