IN honor of World Teacher’s Day on Oct. 5, Marianas Variety is inviting students to take part in the Draw Your Teacher contest.
According to Variety Sales and Marketing Supervisor Hazel Sadian, the contest is open to students from first to fifth grade in any CNMI public or private school.
Each entry must be original and should be an artistic showcase of the teacher the student appreciates the most. In other words, students are asked to paint their favorite teacher.
Sadian said students and the teacher they draw will receive contest prizes to be given out on Oct. 2. There will be one teacher-student winner per grade level, for a total of five winners from first to fifth grade.
The artwork of student winners will also be published in the print edition of Variety on Oct. 5.
Deadline for submission is Tuesday, Sept. 26. According to Sadian, students may submit their artwork to their school administrators. Variety staff will collect the artwork after the deadline.
Alternatively, students or parents may scan their artwork and email the digital copies to sales@mvariety.com/.
Students or parents may also drop their entries directly to the Marianas Variety office at 8823 Alaihai Avenue in Garapan, next to Caravan.
Sadian said participants may be “as creative as they can be” when it comes to the materials used in the art contest.
“They are allowed to use any type of medium or material they are comfortable with. Digital art is also welcome,” Sadian said.
However, she added, students should draw their entries on either 8.5 x 11 inch paper or 11 x 17 inch paper.
Students should include their name, their teacher’s name, their grade level, and school on their entry.
Sadian said the work will be judged based on the following criteria: interpretation of the theme; originality and artistic quality; visual elements; and overall impact.
“Because it’s World Teacher’s Day, we want to be able to show our appreciation to the teachers of the CNMI,” Sadian said. “For sure, each one of us has a teacher who has definitely made an impact on our lives — the teacher we appreciate the most. After all, on school grounds, they are our second parents. It’ll be very fun to see how these kids see their teachers through their drawings.”
