Kelly Taimanglo accused of choking, punching woman

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Kelly Taimanglo is being held in prison on $10,000 cash bail after he was accused of assaulting a woman known to him earlier this week.

According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam, Kelly Taimanglo was the subject of a disturbance at a Sånta Rita-Sumai residence, where a woman accused him of assault.

Kelly Taimanglo allegedly got angry at the woman before punching the left side of her back and slapping the left side of her head. The woman then locked herself in the bathroom and yelled for help, according to the complaint.

“The defendant then broke the door down and charged at her. The defendant grabbed the victim’s neck and began to choke her for approximately 10 to 15 seconds,” according to the complaint, which added the woman, while being choked, felt faint and couldn’t breathe.

When the woman was able to leave the room, Kelly Taimanglo allegedly chased after her and began to punch her ears and she fell to the ground. According to the complaint, Kelly Taimanglo choked her again before she was capable of escaping and went to another room and locked the door.

Officers with the Guam Police Department arrived shortly after the woman escaped and observed injuries on the woman which included redness to both of her ears, bruising to both sides of her neck and bruising to her left wrist.

Kelly Taimanglo was charged with strangulation and family violence as third-degree felonies. If convicted of all the charges, Kelly Taimanglo could face 10 years in prison.

Prior case

Earlier in May, Kelly Taimanglo and his brother, Joseph “Baby Joe” Taimanglo, a former mixed martial arts fighter, were charged in connection to several incidents.

According to charging documents, Kelly Taimanglo and Joseph Taimanglo were accused in January of threatening a man who the Taimanglos said owed Kelly Taimanglo $10,000 and who was responsible for the loss of merchandise for Kelly Taimanglo’s company. However, the man said he was never a business partner or employee of the company.

The brothers in February also were accused by the same woman in Kelly Taimanglo’s recent case of assaulting her. The woman reported Kelly Taimanglo punched her on the left side of her face.

Then in April, when police found Kelly Taimanglo, the woman was with him, and Kelly Taimanglo allegedly said the woman was going to drop the charges.

“Officers asked Kelly if he would be willing to come to the precinct for questioning, and he stated, ‘If you’re going to take me, we’re going to fight, and you’re going to have to shoot me,'” documents stated.

Police then told Kelly Taimanglo he was arrested, and he allegedly responded by yelling at the officers, telling them to leave and attempting to close the door on them. A struggle ensued and Kelly Taimanglo was brought to the ground before being instructed to roll over onto his stomach and pull his arms toward his chest, the complaint stated.

Kelly Taimanglo was charged with two counts of family violence and resisting arrest as misdemeanors and was released from prison on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
