(Special Advertising Feature) — In collaboration with 500 Sails, Hyatt Regency Saipan brings back culturally authentic canoe rides at the resort’s ocean front, home to Skipper’s Beach Bar each Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

After its first successful event last year, it is the second time that the Hyatt Regency Saipan guests and local residents can enjoy a free excursion aboard a canoe — built and inspired by indigenous sailing traditions.

This unique and memorable experience will be highlighted by a postcard-perfect sunset backdrop.

In 2014, Emma and Pete Perez established 500 Sails to revive, promote and practice  the maritime cultural traditions of the Mariana Islands. In order to achieve its goal, 500 Sails has integrated traditional cultural values into modern life to help build a healthy community.

500 Sails Community Programs and Development Director Kuen-Hee Han said, “500 Sails is very excited to be given this opportunity to be present on one of Saipan’s most famous sites, Hyatt’s Micro Beach.”

“This will be a great way to whet the appetites of guests and community members immersing themselves in local maritime culture,” she added

According to Simon Graf, general manager of Hyatt Regency Saipan, working and supporting the community is one of the fundamental pillars of Hyatt’s World of Care.

“Over the past 65 years, care has been at the heart of everything that we do at Hyatt. Our goals, particularly in the areas of social and environmental sustainability, were defined by understanding what is important to our colleagues, guests, customers, owners, investors and communities,” he said.

“Many thanks to 500 Sails for selecting us for continued partnership. Here at Hyatt, we call our guests ‘Discoverists,’ ‘Explorists’ and ‘Globalists.’ We honor the deep heritage of the people in the Marianas who have connected their world and broadened their horizon by building boats and sailing into the unknown. There is no better way than experiencing these cultural assets  on Micro Beach, and  we are confident that these activities also promote many other aspects of Saipan and we are honored to be part of the collaboration,” he added.

Complimentary and educational canoe rides take place every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. until November 2023 on a first come, first served basis.
