ELEVEN local talents on Saturday participated in the second audition of Music Performing Arts Competition Corp.’s Battle of the Voices. They all made it to the first elimination round set for Sept. 23, 2023, at the Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center.
The new contestants are Donovan Castro, who sang a reggae version of Rod Stewart’s “I Don’t Wanna Talk About It”; 17-year-old Johana Mugar, who sang Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For”; 35-year-old Dwayne Castro, who sang Ed Sheeran’s “Dive”; 17-year-old Sebastian Tajibmai, who sang the Eagles’ “Love Will Keep Us Alive”; 30-year-old Jerry Roy, who performed his own rap music; 36-year-old Robby Murillo, who sang Martin Nievera’s “Be My Lady”; 51-year-old Elmer Delgado, who sang Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Love Me With All Of Your Heart”; 45-year-old Azenith Avila, who sang Julia Zahra’s “Just An Illusion”; 23-year-old Charisse Ramos, who sang Adele’s “When We Were Young”; and 39-year-old Bench Legaspi, who sang Angela Bofill’s “Break It To Me Gently.”
On Sept. 23, they will compete with the contestants who participated in the first audition round last month: 18-year-old Donato Santiago, 39-year-old Dean Borja, 18-year-old Brent Espineda, 22-year-old Arianne Antonio, 20-year-old Matthew Manuel, 17-year-old Bernice Sabino, her 50-year-old father Bernard C. Sabino, 24-year-old Lorenzy Leo, 24-year-old Zoe Stephanson, 29-year-old Jessel Antonio, 50-year-old Ronilo De Belen, and 26-year-old Raniel Santos.
Music Performing Arts Competition Corp. board member Daniel O. Quitugua said on Sept. 23, each of the contestants will perform a different song.
Next is a second elimination round which will be followed by the grand finale in November to determine the top three winners.
Quitugua said on Oct. 7, they will hold an audition for young talents, five to 10 years old, and 11 to 15 years old for the children’s category of the Battle of the Voices.
He said the Music Performing Arts Competition Corp. wants to see what it can do to build a better community. He believes that the CNMI has an abundance of musical talents.
Hopefully, he said, “we will have more musical events rather than political events.”
The judges on Saturday were Marpac Consumer Sales Manager Tom Basa, local musician Alfred Saures, former Marianas High School Glee Club member and Public School System Social Studies Program Manager Vinnie Orsini and Begonia Camacho.
