(Special Advertising Feature) — Herman’s Modern Bakery Inc. is thrilled to announce a significant change in leadership that marks the beginning of a new era for the cherished family business. After 31 years of dedicated service, Anna G. Hayes retired as General Manager on October 31, 2022. Michael R. Guerrero, the former Assistant General Manager, succeeded her as interim general manager immediately after that. Joseph T. LeePan Guerrero, joins the team as assistant general manager.
Leadership transition
During her tenure, Ms. Hayes oversaw the expansion of Herman’s Modern Bakery Inc., including the introduction of five additional divisions alongside the bakery, namely Tan Marakita’s Café, PSS Food Service, Wholesale, Catering, and Garapan Outlet. Her steady leadership guided the company through various challenges, such as Typhoon Soudelor, Super Typhoon Yutu, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“It has been an honor to serve as General Manager for Herman’s Modern Bakery Inc. during this period of transformation and growth,” said Ms. Hayes. “We have been in business in the CNMI for 79 years, and we owe a huge thank you to our customers, communities, colleagues, shareholders, and the Board of Directors for their ongoing support during my tenure.”
Continuing the legacy
Michael R. Guerrero, the new general manager of Herman’s Modern Bakery Inc. since March 31, 2023, expressed his optimism about the transition. “I am truly excited to continue working in the family business and serving my grandfather’s namesake foundation as a second-generation family member,” he stated.

Mr. Guerrero excels in culinary arts with a background in baking and pastry arts, chef training, and management. He has a proven track record for network building, collaboration, developing a culture of empowerment, and developing teams that have clear priorities and expectations. Under his leadership, Guerrero will oversee the bakery, Tan Marakita’s Café, PSS Food Service, Wholesale, Catering, and Garapan Outlet.

Joseph T. LeePan Guerrero
In addition to the change in general management, Joseph T. LeePan Guerrero, a second-generation of the founders Herman R. and Maria T. Guerrero assumed the role of Assistant General Manager on February 27, 2023. His previous experience includes serving four terms as a representative of Precinct 1 and chairing the Commerce and Tourism Committee in the CNMI 21st House of Representatives.
“We welcome our brother’s distinguished employment on the basis of his hard work and experience,” said Herman T. Guerrero about Joseph T. LeePan Guerrero’s role as Assistant General Manager. “He will encourage everyone to work with good energy and dedication.”
