Cop attacked, critical

Bureau of Public Safety Director Norvert H. Yano in an interview on Monday said that Patrol Officer Lanson Doktok is still in critical condition at the hospital due to a serious injury in the head.Director Yano said Doktok was hit in the head with a still unidentified object.Yano said the Criminal Investigation Division is still investigating the incident and is still trying to get more information from the victim.Yano said as of Monday, the 42-year-old victim is able to talk to the investigators but the Director said they will take it slowly until the victim is declared fully out of danger.Yano said the incident was reported to the police on Thursday, July 10, at 5 am, at the police officer’s house in Airai.The Director said Doktok’s wife and son-in-law were also in the house when the incident happened.The Director said the investigation is open for everybody and no one has been ruled out yet in the list of suspects, including the wife.“We are still looking at all angles, no one has been ruled out yet. We just started getting information from him because he was not able to talk for several days, although he is able to talk now, we don’t want to pressure him, we will do it slowly until he is fully recovered,”Yano said adding the case was put on priority list.The Director said that Doktok has been in the Bureau for 12 years now and is assigned to provide security protection to Independent Council Lewis Harley of the Pacific Savings Bank.Yano said Harley was off island when the incident happened.Yano said they are looking closely at the possibility that the incident could be personal related and not work related.
