Voters warned vs. candidates who paint others negatively for their gains

“We are entering the campaign season, much that will be said is not true or are exaggerated,” the president said.

Remengesau was reacting to the statement of presidential candidate Joshua Koshiba regarding alleged abuse of government officials in the use of government vehicles.

“Koshiba has said that this government is corrupt,” Remengesau said.

The president said there are directives that regulate the use of government vehicles, he said that his government’s policy about vehicles are allowable by law.

Remengesau said if Koshiba is not satisfied with the way the government is regulating the use of government vehicles, then the senator who is a member of Congress can enact new laws to amend the old statute.

The president said Koshiba should back up his allegations with evidence, adding that he will welcome any investigation.

Remengesau said Koshiba should instead focus on other issues for the betterment of the country and not turn on his administration to advance his agenda.

“I am not running against him. I am leaving the office,” the president said.

The president Koshiba’s dissatisfaction with the present law can be remedied since he is a member of the Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK) which has the power to change the law.

“Do not wait until you become president. If you cannot do it now , how are you going to do it when you become president,” Remengesau said.

The president said Koshiba also blamed the government for the closure of the Pacific Savings Bank (PSB).

“Failure of the PSB is not the government’s fault,” Remengesau said.

He also stressed that he also lost money from PSB contrary to Koshiba’s alleged statement that he was able to get his money out before the defunct bank collapsed.
