Man in sexual abuse case pleads not guilty

Associate Judge David A. Wiseman said the court found probable cause to believe that Sanito Estrera committed the crimes of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, and sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.

Estrera waived  reading of the information and of his constitutional rights. He was remanded to custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.

Wiseman set the status conference for July 17 at 9 a.m.

Detective Patrick Earl Maanao submitted an affidavit to court stating that they received a report about a sexual abuse of a minor in Chalan Kanoa on June 18.

Maanao said the source who reported the abuse said he left the little girl with the defendant for a few minutes to do an errand.

When he came back, the door to the house was locked.

The source said he heard the victim ordering the defendant to say sorry to her.

When he entered the house, the defendant was pretending to wash dishes at the sink.

When the defendant left, the little girl told the source that the defendant touched her inappropriately, the affidavit stated.

Witnesses said the defendant was close to the family and to the victim, who treated him like a family member.

Estrera was arrested at 4:45 p.m. on the same day and was brought to the Criminal Investigation Division.

Estrera said the victim’s father would sometimes ask him to baby-sit the children.

He admitted kissing and hugging the little girl and touching her inappropriately.
