The Northern Youth Basketball Association Tournament that started on April 28 was cancelled after some lawmakers requested the organizers allow them to have the basketball facility fixed first.
The tournament was already in its eighth game schedule when a group of lawmakers observed the facility’s hazardous condition.
Youth 16 years old and under and 14 years old and under from the villages northern side of the island are playing in the said caging.
Joe Diaz said six lawmakers who saw the need to fix the basketball asked them to either stop the games for a while or find an alternative court so that they can renovate the Garapan basketball court.
For Diaz it is just okay for everybody to interrupt the league as long as it is for their safety. They should even be thankful to those who notice the condition of the basketball court.
The young players have taken enough time practicing due to the one-month delay.
In the 16-and-under division, the Garapan Rollers has 1-0 standing after winning the opening game against Garapan Stars. San Antonio Fixes also won after that and now have 1-0 standing as well.
The other teams for 16-and-under are Garapan Rollers II (0-2) Southern Sonics (1-0) Kontenders (0-2) and Kagman Suns (0-0).
In the 14-and-under, Sonics won three times with no lost, G-Rollers has 1-2 standing; Sixers 1-1, and G-Stars 0-2.
The NYBA already have the schedule of the games, he said, and all they have to do is put dates for each meet.
Diaz said they hope they can resume soon so that they can prepare for the fourth annual NYBA Basketball Invitational in July.
This month, the NYBA is also preparing for the Father’s Day 4-on-4 Tournament.
