Joann “Risong” Tarkong , the president’s “Interagency Coordinator” said if she wins as Senator she will work together with the new leadership of Palau for a united representation “ for the sake of the peoples welfare and the republic.”
She said in a statement that Palau needs strong leadership that will solve and address the basic necessities and the development of the quality of life for all Palauans.
“This including for the establishment of better economic opportunities and growth pursued in legislation that will effectively help the citizens of Palau which will bring about real solutions against the great challenges faced with the growing crisis of fuel and food prices and the high cost of living that is affecting the many lives of the people,” Tarkong said.
Her goals are social benefits for the people, educational and health programs efficiency and development.
Tarkong also included in her platform, programs and incentives for the citizens to develop their own businesses in various fields such as retail businesses, fisheries, tourism, aquaculture, agriculture and many others.
She said she will be strongly supporting strong ties and relations with United Nations and allies of nation that can help Palau achieve self-reliance.
She said she will also promote use of renewable energy and recycling program.
Tarkong said she hopes that the people will give her an opportunity to be their Senate representative.
Tarkong is the second oldest daughter of the late Hiroshi Tarkong and Mrs. Balisa Tarkong.
Tarkong graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a pre-law degree in 1986 and also graduated Academy of Our Lady of Guam High School in 1981.
Tarkong worked as legal assistant for a private law firm for four years then also as a legislative consultant for the Guam legislature for about three years.
In 1994, she started a small business in the Service Industry which had over 40 employees and after six years of doing business she moved to Palau and started working for the Executive Branch.
