Calvo, 43, was arraigned before Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja on Monday. He appeared with his counsel Anthony G. Long. The government was represented by chief prosecutor Kevin Lynch.
Naraja set the status conference for Sept. 1 at 1:30 p.m.
The court issued a warrant of arrest against Calvo on June 13 after finding probable cause to support the charges against him — sexual assault in the second degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree and disturbing the peace.
According to the prosecution, the minor girl was sexually assaulted on the morning of June 11.
Calvo surrendered to the Attorney General’s Office in Susupe on June 16 and was brought to the Department of Public Safety where he was served the warrant of arrest, booked and detained.
Calvo is the owner of Calvo’s Nursery and Landscaping and the Island Farmers Market.
He was charged with two separate cases of sexual abuse of a child in 2000 involving two sisters.
He was tried in Nov. 2005 for the case involving the younger sister and was acquitted by a jury.
The jury trial for the other case was supposed to start on Dec. 5, 2005 but it was reset for a later date until the government moved for its dismissal.
