Store owner’s son assaulted during unscheduled power outage

Taking advantage of the darkness, five teenagers from the same neighborhood grabbed a bar of chocolate and a can of soda from Hong Market, which is managed by Cui Hung.

Hung said her 21-year-old son, Yufabo, was at the store counter at 8 p.m. on Monday night when the lights went out.

“We were unprepared for the sudden power outage because there was no schedule,” Hung said. “My son was about to close the store when the five teenagers came in.”

According to Hung, “One of the five got a chocolate bar and a soft drink and was about to leave without paying. My son told him to stop and pay for what he got, but the boys paid no heed to my son.”

When her son chased the teenagers outside the store, one of the five hit his son’s head with a beer bottle.

Police authorities responded to Hung’s call for assistance last night. She said she had to take her son to the clinic to have his head injury stitched and treated.

She called the police last night to ask for a follow-up on the case but she was told that they had no new information about it.

“I called the police again twice yesterday morning but still, they don’t have the identities of the five teenagers,” Hung said. “I’ve seen the teenagers around and they are familiar to me.”

As of press time, there was still no update about the incident from the Department of Public Safety.

“Investigations are still going on regarding the incident, but we will release the updates as soon as it becomes available,” said Police Officer Tricia Seman, the department’s acting spokeswoman.
